THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF CALGARY – ABORIGINAL INITIATIVES

The Boys and Girls Club of Calgary (BGCC), is one of the organizations we work with to help Indigenous Youth in Calgary. BGCC offers a variety of accessible, affordable, structured and intentional programs in the evening, during school breaks, and in the summer, focusing on the areas of recreation, education, leaderships, and arts. Programs are designed to decrease risk factors while increasing protective factors through promotion of physical and mental well being, responsible decision-making, self esteem, self-efficacy, engagement and pro-social attitudes.

As part of the BGCC, the Aboriginal Initiatives offers supports and services during school breaks and after school during critical hours, where children and youth can make friends, learn about their culture, participate in programs that encourage self esteem, develop social skills, and provide encouragement to make positive lifestyle choices. Currently, Aboriginal Initiatives offers two primary programs to the Aboriginal community in Calgary, these being the Aboriginal Youth Leadership Program and the Aboriginal Art Program. Both are geared towards the provision of cultural aspects into overall programming.
