Steel River Group’s leadership team brings a unique perspective backed by years of experience, that links a wide array of knowledge in Indigenous engagement, civil construction & management, oil and gas, infrastructure & housing, staffing, water care and renewables.

Kayla Beaulieu

Human Resources Lead

Kayla Beaulieu brings more than seven years of onboarding experience and administration functions to her role as Steel River Group’s Human Resources Lead.

Graduating from Canadore College in North Bay Ontario, Kayla has a background in Hospitality and Tourism. Her human resources experience was enhanced in Calgary through her roles as HR Generalist for World Gym and Western Canada HR Contract Administrator for The Employment Solution. She is an experienced Human Resources Administrator, familiar with the onboarding and training procedures for both Canada and the U.S.

When she isn’t dealing with work, Kayla loves to be in nature, citing the Kananaskis Country trails as her go to hiking destinations.

Jonathan Brewer

Relationship Manager

Jonathan is a proud member of the Kainai (Blood) tribe which is part of the Blackfoot confederacy.  He joined Steel River in June 2023 and oversees the development of growth and support towards the organization as well as establishing key relationships with Indigenous Partners and relevant external groups and associations.

Prior of joining Steel River, Jonathan worked as the Indigenous Relations and Communications Manager for North Coal Ltd. in Sparwood, British Columbia.  In addition to the mining sector, he has worked in Forestry, Plant Operations, Agricultural, Oil & Gas and Family and Child Services.

Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Salish Kootenay College located in Pablo, Montana, USA.

Through all Jonathan’s work experience, he has a passion for working with the Indigenous nations to develop working relationships that help create opportunities for those nations. When Jonathan is not working he is spending his time with his family attending Pow wows, traveling, or enjoying family time.

Colleen Buffalo

Manager, Corporate Responsibility

Colleen Buffalo is a proud member of the Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation from Saskatchewan and has been with Steel River since 2019. She plays a key role in our Indigenous engagement and is central to the ongoing dialogue in fostering meaningful relationships with our Indigenous partners.

Colleen is, first and foremost, passionate about her family, keeping her culture robust in her family, and participating in Indigenous traditions.

Through Colleen’s Indigenous practices and teachings, and combined with her experience and wealth of knowledge, we are very fortunate to have Colleen as part of our Team.

Deanna Fequet

Manager, Human Resources

As Human Resources Manager, Deanna’s responsibilities are to ensure and develop and positive work culture through efficient communication at Steel River Group.  Strategic planning for staffing, employee relations and engagement are integral in fostering the productive work environment at Steel River Group.

Most recently Deanna obtained her Human Resources Certificate from Bow Valley College and is excited to integrate her learnings to the Steel River Group.  Deanna has previously graduated with a Degree in Criminal Justice and has worked closely with many families in the Calgary and surrounding areas and First Nations. Prior to Steel River Group, Deanna was employed with the Government of Alberta, Child and Family Services, as a casework and assessor for the Indigenous Office and the formerly known Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Center. She worked collaboratively with Calgary Police Service, Alberta Health Services Alberta, and Alberta Justice in a multi-disciplinary approach conducting investigations to determine outcomes for child abuse cases.

Deanna is excited to be part of such an inclusive company and culture that will bring success to people, projects, First Nations and Steel River Group. She believes that we are in an industry and time that allows for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to work together and conclude projects with a better understanding of what is required to formulate a successful future.

Trent Fequet

President and CEO

A proud Indigenous entrepreneur and business leader with 25 years of experience with some of Canada’s most prominent pipeline, infrastructure, and mining companies. Trent founded Steel River Group in 2017 based on the belief that there has never been a better time to reimagine how a private Indigenous business defines, creates, and captures value for Indigenous communities’ & people. 

To achieve this goal, he established his company’s Governing Principles, which are deeply rooted in Indigenous values, beliefs, and culture. The foundation is grounded by a strong sense of community, centered around people and relationships. These relationships are premised around creating alignment between three critical groups: Steel River Companies; Indigenous Communities; and Alliance Partners through Steel River Group’s Inclusion Ecosystem Model.

As a diverse management entity, Steel River Group provides corporate governance, structure, and support to its group of companies as well as to its Ecosystem partners.

As President and CEO, Trent drives Steel River Group’s vision and provides support and guidance to his team and Ecosystem partners. He believes strongly in helping those around him to succeed and spends countless hours supporting and enabling his staff and mentoring entrepreneurs and individuals around him. His vision for the organization’s future is to support the process of collaborative engagement, foster the preservation of cultural and traditional values, and champion social sovereignty and economic sustainability for our people.

TJ Galiardi

Chief Development Officer

TJ Galiardi has been active in real estate for over 15 years as an investor and developer and has been a guest lecturer at Rice University and the Tuck School of Business. After retiring from professional hockey in 2017, he Co-Founded Outcast Foods, a food-technology company that upcycles waste stream produce. TJ left Outcast Foods after completing its Series A fundraising to join Steel River Group as Chief Development Officer.

He is also a former NHL forward, having played with the Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames & Winnipeg Jets after being drafted while playing at Dartmouth College.  Outside of work TJ enjoys spending time with his wife Paulina & their 3 children as well as playing tennis.

Brock Henderson

Vice President, Corporate Strategy & Partnerships

Brock’s role at Steel River Group is supporting the development and sustainability of all partnerships within the Steel River Ecosystem. Before Steel River Group, he worked in the areas of banking, fabrication, and agriculture.

As a graduate of the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Management, his strategic thinking, networking, and research helps provide decision making depth for Steel River Group in advancing corporate initiatives and supporting the company’s mission.

Cherag Kapoor

Manager, Business Analytics & Economics

Cherag is a data-driven business analyst with a double specialization in Supply Chain and Business Technology from UBC Sauder. Prior to joining to Steel River Group, he was working as a Strategic IT Business Analyst at Mastec Canada (Energy Construction). He has also worked at TC Energy and CNOOC International (Previously Nexen) in supply chain and a business analytics role, respectively. He has industry experience in Education, Event Management, Energy Construction, Financial Services (Sales), Public Accounting (Tax and Financial Compilations), and Oil, Gas & Energy.

Trevor Mahl

Vice President, Staffing

Trevor brings over 25 years of experience and knowledge in the field of Recruitment and Human Resources. He is a graduate of the NAIT Business program and has owned and operated his own staffing company that offered recruitment services for executive search, construction and project management, skilled trades and engineering and operations.

Prior to Steel River Energy Services, Trevor worked for Clean Harbors, Alberta Pacific Forest Industries, Manpower Services, and ATCO Electric. He is passionate about People, Culture and Innovation and brings a forward-thinking approach to aligning people, companies and communities together to achieve their goals.

Jamielyn Masicampo

Payroll Lead

Jamielyn has been with Steel River since February 2021 as the Payroll Administrator. Before joining Steel River, she worked as a bookkeeper, ATM processor, payroll coordinator, and accounts payable analyst for organizations like Maxium Mechanical Ltd., STRAIT Group Ltd., Cash Casino and Ensign Energy Services, Inc. 

Jamielyn has obtained a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Notre Dame of Dadiangas University. 

Coming from the Philippines to Canada and working for an Indigenous owned and operated company, Jamielyn feels privileged to be immersed directly with Indigenous Nations and Groups and has learned about the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples in Canada. When she is not in the office, Jamielyn is gardening or planning her next travel destination. 

Leroy McKinnon

Vice President, Marketing & Communications

Leroy brings more than 20 years of experience in the oil and gas, sports, social services, and not-for-profit sectors to the Steel River team.  In his role, he oversees marketing, branding and communications initiatives and supports business development.  Leroy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis Xavier University and a Public Relations Management Diploma from the University of Calgary. 

Prior to joining Steel River Group, he worked for Parkland Corporation, Enviros and TAQA. Leroy also spent over 13 years in the hockey industry working for Hockey Canada, the Western Hockey League, and Canadian Hockey League.

He believes success is built on strong teamwork and working together to align Indigenous Nations, people, and businesses with industry will lead to greater opportunities.

Christine McNabb

Corporate Accounting Lead

Since April 2021 Christine has played an integral role at Steel River Group, in April 2022 she was promoted to lead, Corporate Accounting. Her extensive experience in accounting is formed from previous companies like Mastec Canada Inc., Advanced Accounting Ltd., and Waterflood Services & Sales through roles like accounting technician, office manager and accounting administrator. 

Christine holds a diploma of accounting from Saskatchewan Polytechnic College. As a certified personal trainer Christine is passionate about health and wellness, as well as reconnecting back to her Indigenous roots. 

Mike Meaney

Executive Vice President, Operations & Major Projects

Steel River Group is happy to have Mike Meaney back in the fold. Mike had previously worked with SRG as the Project Manager supporting the Alberta’s First Nations Site Rehabilitation Program. The program administered ~$113 million to 36 First Nations to build capacity, develop lands and conduct inactive wellsite closure activities on reserve lands.

Establishing relationships with many of these Indigenous Nations fueled Mike’s passion for economic reconciliation, along with the need for building and maintaining capacity within the Nations.

Mike has an extensive project management background with previous experience in earthworks, pipeline, environmental and asset retirement (closure/site rehabilitation). He holds a diploma in Land Reclamation from Olds College and maintains a Project Manager Professional certificate (PMP). His experience comes from various managerial positions at Obsidian Energy, Husky Energy, and other construction contractors.

As SRG’s Director of Major Projects, Mike possesses a strong mindset to overcome challenges. He believes in building a strong team foundation and relationships is the key to a successful project.

Living an active lifestyle outside of the office, Mike is very passionate about coaching CrossFit, snowmobiling, and mountain biking.

Ryan Murray

Vice President, Finance

Ryan has been with Steel River 2021 and serves as Controller for the Steel River Group of Companies. In his previous role, Ryan acted as the corporate accounting lead but now oversees a wide range of finance services including accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting & accounting, and budgeting. 

Prior to joining Steel River Group, Ryan worked for H&R Block, Crowe Mackay LLP and the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority, where it formed his composite management skills today. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Management (Accounting) degree from the University of British Columbia. 

Outside of the office, Ryan supports the ongoing development of new volleyball players by coaching adult recreational teams across Calgary.  He has also volunteered at hospice care and Kelowna General Hospital wards speaking and engaging with patients in care. 

Ryan feels fortunate to be a team member of Steel River and is a strong believer in the company’s people first culture and its focus on the community. 

Terri Shaddick

Terri Shaddick

Directeur Financier

Terri is a chartered accountant who brings nearly 20 years of experience in accounting and finance.  Before joining Steel River Group in 2023, Terri was working as a Corporate Controller for Stampede Drilling Inc.

Graduating from St. Mary’s University, Halifax, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, Terri gained a well of knowledge when it comes to financial modelling, budgeting & forecasting, and financial analysis.

Outside of work, Terri is a cycling enthusiast, looking to ride trails all over Alberta and B.C.

Peter Timmins

Directeur des Opérations

Peter brings a wealth of operations knowledge and experience to Steel River Group, having previously held the position of Vice President, Operations at a notable engineering firm as well as a role as Business Operations Manager of a pipeline construction company. He holds a BSc. in Biology from the University of Alberta, a BSc. in Computer Science from the University of Victoria and an MBA in Executive Management from Royal Roads University.

As Chief Operating Officer with Steel River Group, Peter oversees the overall operations for the business and is responsible for implementing our organization’s vision, strategies, polices & procedures, and direction. He also manages operational oversight regarding finance, human resources, organizational development, information technology and administration.

Peter’s passion for people inspired him to join the Steel River team, a culture founded on leadership he characterizes as inspirational. He enjoys helping people realize their potential, develop their skills and progress through their careers.

Logan Woodland

Manager, Health Safety and Environment (HSE)

Logan began his career with Underground Services Ltd in 2004, gaining unparalleled experience in the heavy civil industry, while also establishing himself as a respected health and safety professional. Currently working as the Health and Safety Manager for Steel River Group, Logan is widely known for his passion to keep others safe and ensure everyone goes home at the end of the day happy and healthy.

Outside of work, Logan is an avid outdoorsman. Logan is the President of his local Delta Waterfowl chapter and has spent many hours volunteering and mentoring young and new hunters. In 2021, Logan was awarded the chapter volunteer of the year award. Logan strongly believes in Steel River Group’s Vision and Values as they align with his own personal values.
